Partnering with Terra Campers. The Build Begins
Brad ScrivenShare
When it came time to choose a builder, we knew this wasn’t a decision to take lightly. A van fit-out isn’t just cabinetry and wiring; it’s the foundation of daily life for years to come.
After exploring different options, Terra Campers stood out immediately. From day one, Alice and Marlon were approachable, flexible, and detail-oriented. No question was too small, and no request too difficult. Their dedication to quality materials and innovative design reassured us that we were putting our Sprinter in the best possible hands.
We briefly considered the DIY route but quickly realised that for us, this was a job for experts. We wouldn’t attempt to build a one-bedroom studio apartment from scratch, so why would we take on something as complex as electrical systems, cabinetry, plumbing, and insulation in a van? Kudos to those who make it work on their own, but for us, Terra Campers are the pros we trust.
The Design & Fit-Out Plan
So what will the Sprinter look like once Terra Campers have worked their magic? Here’s a peek at the layout and features we’ve designed together:
- Lounge Area: A comfortable space to relax, read, and recharge.
- Kitchen: Compact but highly functional, designed for fresh cooking with limited space.
- Bathroom: A shower and toilet for comfort and self-sufficiency.
- Sleeping Space: A queen-size bed in an east-west configuration, with rear flares to create more room.
- Storage: A “garage” and clever cabinetry to maximise space.
- Climate Control: Air conditioning to keep cool in the Australian heat.
- Off-Grid Capability: 600 amp hours of battery power, 120L of fresh water storage, and solar panels for life on the road.
Every detail has been intentional from cabinetry finishes to water tank capacity. We had a huge amount of input during the design process, which makes us even more excited to see it come together.
The Hand-Over Day
Driving the Sprinter to Terra Campers was a surreal moment. As we pulled into the workshop, the excitement was electric. Handing over the keys felt like crossing a finish line and starting a brand new race at the same time.
Were we nervous? Honestly, not really. We’ve been planning this for so long that letting her go for a few months felt natural. More than anything, we felt anticipation. The hardest part now is simply waiting, knowing the transformation is underway but resisting the urge to fast-forward time.
